Disabled Options for Alice Springs Airport Car Rental
Passengers with disabilities should always notify the airline they are travelling with prior to the day of travel, especially if they are going to need special assistance. This enables the carrier to make suitable arrangements.
Upon arrival at the terminal, there are two disabled parking bays in the short term car park which are provided free of charge. Disabled parking bays in the long term car parks incur the normal parking charge. For all disabled car parking bays, a valid permit must be displayed. There is also a designated kerbside bay for pick ups and drop offs of disabled passengers. This also requires a valid permit, and can be used for a maximum of 15 minutes.
Inside the terminal, there are disabled-access toilets in both the sterile area past security and in the normal public area. Airlines can provide wheelchairs for use if a personal wheelchair is checked, and these must be arranged with the airline. Assistance animals are welcome in the terminal.
One area of difficulty which arises often for passengers with disabilities is the security screening, as it is generally a requirement to walk unaccompanied through the metal detector checkpoint. To smooth the process, please discuss with security staff any concerns or special requirements you may have, and any medical implants or mobility aids which may set off the detectors. Prams, strollers and wheelchairs can pass through security but will have to be checked manually. It is a good idea to allow additional time for the security screening process if you believe you will have extra requirements.
